Political Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Feminist Theory, Film Studies, Literary and Visual Cultures in South Asia
My graduate training is in English Literary Studies, Cultural Studies and Anthropology, and I have taught courses in Social Theory, Comparative Literature and Gender Studies. At DA-IICT I have taught the HSS Core course 'Science, Technology, Society', an elective on South Asian public culture, and graduate seminars on popular culture and research writing.
My doctoral research has to do with the politics of democracy and representation of minorities in the Deccani city of Hyderabad. My current research focuses on the participation of Muslim women in the political process. Popular culture, feminist theory and the history of feminist movements in South Asia are included in my broader research interests. I am also deeply interested in thinking about method, especially comparative approaches to ethnographic and literary narrative.
